Insomnia is a terrible thing to face, and if it’s something you’ve experienced for a very long time you know how difficult it can make life. The truth of the matter is that sleep is as important as eating and drinking, without sleep our bodies soon start to suffer, we find it difficult to carry out normal everyday duties, and in fact doing normal everyday things such as driving can become dangerous.
Sleep is essential for your health, during sleep your body rests and takes the time to heal, this is vital for you and your body. Think about how you would feel without eating or drinking, well sleep is just as important.
1. Warm drink
I don’t know about you, but I’ve found a warm drink can work wonders for helping me get to sleep, try making a warm milky drink such as a hot mug of coco before bed, it really works and helps you relax before heading to bed. 2. Music
Playing music can really help to relax you and take your focus away from everyday worried, I don’t just mean any music of course, try to select music without lyrics, just natural sounds will do. I usually interchange between wale sounds and believe it or not, chanting, it really soothes my mind and takes me to a place much more sleep inducing.
3. Pillow
Your pillow can be a hindrance to your sleep, using one that doesn’t support your neck and head correctly can lead to aches and pains and disturb your sleep. You need to use a pillow that provides adequate support to prevent these issues, thus you need to opt for a pillow that provides support for your particular sleeping position. For example if you’re a back sleeper, your neck will be under a lot of stress without enough support. PillowFocus has reviews of some of the best pillows around.
4. Meditation
Meditation is a tool I was very reluctant to try at first, but believe it or not it has been one of the best things to help my insomnia. You probably invasion a Buddhist monk, however it’s much more easier than you think, you simply take 10 minutes before bed to focus your mind on your breathing. By doing this you are taking the focus away from your worries and other frantic thoughts and onto your breathing instead, this is extremely important before sleep, as you need to be in the right frame of mind.
